e-Participation and the Policy Process
from the Perspective of the Public Service

This workshop was held on September 20, 2001 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Gatineau Room and Lounge at the Government Conference Centre, 2 Rideau Street, Ottawa, Ontario. It will be one of three separate, but related, sessions that will explore various aspects of this broad topic. Workshops on e-participation from the perspective of elected officials and one from the perspective of NGOs are also being organized.

The workshop was co-sponsored by the Public Policy Forum; Office of Learning Technologies and Strategic Policy of Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) along with the Commonwealth Centre for Electronic Governance. The agenda was developed through an advisory group comprised of the above groups as well as the Canadian Centre for Management Development, Canadian Policy Research Networks, the Parliamentary Centre, and the Privy Council Office.

Thomas B.Riley, Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Centre for Electronic Governance was the facilitator of discussions at this workshop. A full paper on this and two other upcoming workshops in the Fall, 2001, will be available on the CCEG website in January, 2002.
